I agree completely. I hate the idea of just removing a part of who I am at any point of the day or night. This concept brings to mind the song Turn it Off from the Book of Mormon whenever I hear it today. If you’re doing something you love it should never be turned off.

I don’t, however, think that work should consume your every thought and feeling. When it comes to problem solving, sometimes being able to put the problem aside can be immensely valuable. Some of my best thoughts and ideas have come when I’ve finally stopped drilling on the issue or challenge at hand.

When I think of how I want to live my life, and how I want my son to experience me living my life, I want to find joy in everything I do. Whether it’s working on a deal, taking a coffee meeting, changing his diaper or taking holiday on a deserted island, these activities should always bring me some form of happiness – and they do, even when Holden is on his changing table. Ultimately it’s not that I want work-life balance, I prefer work-life integration. I want each half of me, work and life, to benefit and to enhance the other.
