I’ve been a huge fan of Harry Stebbings and The Twenty Minute VC since inception. I’ve heard amazing stories from David Cohen, Dave McClure, Steve Schlafman, Ann Miura-Ko and even my partner, Jeff Bussgang. So when Harry asked me if I would join him on the show I was beyond thrilled, flattered and honored to join.

This conversation actually started back when I was still at WeWork. I was angel investing and thinking about whether or not I’d like to move into venture full time. When I decided to take the plunge and joined Flybridge with Jeff, Chip Hazard and David Aronoff, I reached back out to Harry and told him, “I’m ready to go!” The rest? Well, I hope you’ll listen to The Twenty Minute VC episode to find out. (iTunes/Overcast/Product Hunt)

Harry and I talk about a bunch of things in this episode including:

  • How I made the transition from operator with WeWork to General Partner @ Flybridge? Hint: I’ve been preparing for this for a long time it turns out.
  • At what stage does founder vision transition to become stubbornness? How do I approach the situation of telling a founder when it is not working? Hint: Gingerly but straight.
  • How did my investment mindset shift while making the move from angel to VC with a fiduciary responsibility?
  • How do I look to develop pattern recognition as a new entrant to VC? How important a role does mentorship play for me?
  • What are the characteristics I look for in a founder that suggest they’re an innate problem solver? How do I deal with problems when the ‘shit hits the fan?’

I’d love your feedback on the episode, a recommend on this post (the heart icon) and a share across your social networks. That’d be swell!
